As fall sets in we’ve got a great indoor activity to propose. Help your fellow GeneaBloggers celebrate their 2020 blogiversary. Both you and your fellow bloggers, vloggers, and podcasters will get a big treat!
The challenge (should you choose to accept it)
- Visit three (3) sites you’ve never visited before
- Visit two (2) sites which have content similar to yours
- Visit two (2) sites which have a geographic specialty
- Visit two (2) sites which specialize in something else
- Visit one (1) site of your choice
- Leave a positive comment on half the websites you visit, which should add up to 5
Once you’ve completed the challenge, tell us what you thought in the comments below.

Great idea! I visited new blogs and left comments on some. However, I was sad to see that many of these blogs are no longer active — or do not have posts beyond 2018. Maybe a GeneaBloggers poll could look into this to find out why, or whether bloggers need moral support from our community to find readers and keep going. Also, it would be easier to do the scavenger hunt if the blog links were live.
Molly, I agree with you. I think only active blogs should be listed here. There could be another place for archived blogs. However, how can you wish a happy anniversary to a blog that has not posted in several years. I agree with your idea to reach out to these bloggers to see if they need support. Meanwhile, it is easier to view the active blogs here.
These are all really good points!
Hello. I was looking at the October Blog Anniversary challenge. It sounds like you are encouraging us to read new blogs, to learn and to share. That sounds wonderful. It would be easier and encourage people to visit these blogs if there were links in the kist of blogs. If we could just click, rather than copy & paste, your challenge would be picked up by more bloggers.
Hi Colleen,
We agree with you, but unfortunately, the free plugins (and we don’t have much of a budget) either require a lot of manual effort to carry hyperlinks or are not mobile friendly.
Thanks for commenting.
Hi Colleen,
Starting with February, I’ve tried to list the active blogs first. Of course, visiting every blog to see which ones are active may not be sustainable…
