Aug 18, 1587. (Old Style date.) Virginia Dare, the first child of English parents to be born in the New World, was born to Ellinor and Ananias Dare, at Roanoke Island, NC, on this date. When a ship arrived to replenish their supplies in 1591, the settlers (including Virginia Dare)had vanished without leaving a trace of the settlement.
