Aug 7. A day to honor and recognize Americas historic lighthouses on the anniversary of Congress signing into law on Aug 7, 1789, An Act for the Establishment and Support of Lighthouse, Beacons, Buoys and Public Piers. On the 200th anniversary of this legislation, in 1989, Congress proclaimed National Lighthouse Day. Many historic US lighthouses stillobserve this day, opening their grounds to the public.
