Canadian Flag for National Flag Day The new Canadian national flag was raised at Ottawa, Canada’s capital, on 15 February 1965. The red-and-white flag with a red maple leaf in the center replaced the Red Ensign flag, which had the British Union Jack in the upper left-hand corner.
