Pancake Day and Shrove Tuesday PANCAKE DAY or SHROVE TUESDAY is the day before Ash Wednesday, celebrated in some countries with feasting on pancakes. The word “shrove” is a form of the word “shrive” which means to be forgiven of one’s sins by confession and penance.
