In 1964 he said: The challenge of the next half century is whether we have the wisdom to use [our] wealth to enrich and elevate our national life and to advance the quality of American civilization. Johnson was born near Stonewall, TX, and died at San Antonio, TX, Jan 22, 1973. His birthday is observed as a holiday in Texas.
