Aug 19, 1921. The creator of the popular TV series Star Trek, Gene Roddenberry was born at El Paso, TX. Turning from his first careeras an airline pilot to writing, he created one of the most successful TV science fiction series ever. The original series, which ended its run in 1969, lives on in reruns and led to other popular spin-off series. Numerousfilms also have been spawned from the original concept. Roddenberry died Oct 24, 1991, at Santa Monica, CA.
