Aug 28, 1955. Emmett Till, a 14-year-old African-American teenager from Chicago visiting relatives in Money, MS, was murdered on this date by a group of white men angry at Tills reported flirtation with a white woman. The Till murder and the acquittal of two of the men involved brought the nations attention to racial tensions in the South and helped sparkcivil rights protests later most famously, Rosa Parkss refusal to give up her seat to a white man on a municipal bus in Montgomery, AL, in December of that year.
