Chinese New YearTraditional Chinese Lunar Year begins at sunset on the day of the second New Moon following the winter solstice— the Year of the Rooster. Outside China, the date of the New Year may differ by a day. The New Year can begin anytime from Jan 21 through Feb 21. Generally celebrated until the Lantern Festival 15 days later, but merchants usually reopen their stores and places of business on the fifth day of the first lunar month.
