hi there….i have also done some research…..talking to family , and searching through cemetaries ….i bought a book on the van slyke family, and found it loaded with errors. i know they were mistakes because the ones i caught right away were ones about my family…..such as names and number of children , dates of mariage,numerous things…..i contacted the auther and he admitted he didnt have time to proof the book before it went to print. now there is a book out there loaded with mistakes and false imformation that people will read and believe….how sad things like this hapen…..

Now I MUST read this book… I have Dutch ancestors, arriving 2 Jun 1663 in New Amsterdam, who soon became known as the TERWILLIGER family lines. I’m sure there’s useful helpful information here to round out my early regional history! Congratulations for doing such great work, Lorine. I’m slowly getting inspired…

Sheri – most of the Van Slykes are descended from the immigrant ancestors Cornelis Van Slyke (who married Ots-Toch) or his nephew Willem Pieterse Van Slyke. I’m lucky enough to be descended from both!

What a huge achievement from Lorine, among her other labours. The book has to be worth reading even if you don’t have Van Slyke ancestors!

Cue Twilight Zone music . . . I just completed a new member application for DAR and the patriot ancestor is William Van Slyke from New York. Obviously he is from a few generations later than the ones discussed in the book, but I am sure he is from the same family of Van Slykes.
