I have the joy to have in hand a LOT of primary sources: ledger books, photos, letters, maps. I have begun discussing with my daughter where they are stored and my desires for their continued safe keeping. The only nightmare worse than not getting to finish my family stories is the thought that all of these collected records will be thrown out at the curb!

My genealogical nightmare was the discovery that my grandfather's biological father, whom he thought died when he was 10 - was actually alive and well and living with his new family a few states away until about 15 years before my grandfather passed away in 2005. Though all the people in my family that this directly affected are no longer living - it's not a situation I was prepared to encounter or care to have to explain to anyone. Generations later, it's still a slap in the face.

My son, working in IT through a school district, just told me that he can't wait for the end of books and libraries! I am just so shocked as he has always been an avid reader and library user BUT his point is that so much money could be saved by not dedicating physical locations etc when we could all be carrying around our own personal libraries in a lightweight digital format. I do get his point, but I LOVE to curl up with a good book.
