52 Weeks of Abundant Genealogy by Amy Coffin is a series of weekly blogging prompts (one for each week of 2012) that invite genealogists and others to discuss resources in the genealogy community including websites, applications, libraries, archives, genealogical societies and more. You do not have to be a blogger to participate. If you do not have a genealogy blog, write down your thoughts on your computer, or simply record them on paper and keep them with your files.

I started genealogy because I found a town in Germany that was the same as my mothers maiden name. But it turns out they are Scot-Irish and almost everyone else is german.LOL
I started by asking my paternal grandparents about their history when I was in about 6th. grade. Maybe I was inspired by the TV mini-series “Roots” that came out a year or two before that.
My daughter was 3 months old when I began the search for family. I did everything on paper (this was B I- before internet). I soon realized that I needed to start asking questions of EVERYONE because all were aging. It soon became apparent that not all questions were going to be answered. Some folks had nothing good to say about others (lol). There were obvious secrets. Lies by omission, A few different perspectives. That’s when I realized that I had to dig and dig and dig and this wasn’t going to be accomplished in a month or two and that I was not going to be the most popular family member. Needless to say nothing has changed. I’m still digging but I’ve learned patience. And the eye rolls no longer bother me.
