I have the pleasure of introducing you to Linda Elliott and her blog, Mad About Genealogy, described as, “. . . News, Reviews & Comments on the world of genealogy. Sharing my expertise and knowledge acquired over 40+ years of family history.”
How Linda Got Started in Genealogy
“I started looking into my family history when I was in my early teens, for my 15th birthday present I asked for 2 death & 1 birth certificates! I’m sixty now so I have been researching for 40+ years. Three of my grandparents had died before I was born so I think I was always curious about those family members that I had never known.”
Linda’s Thoughts on Creating a Blog
“In 2006 my son suggested that I should share my genealogical expertise by starting a blog. I didn’t know much about blogging then, but thought it looked like fun, and it is!
I have recently started another website, Teach Yourself Family History, where I am putting online lessons on English & New Zealand genealogy. It is still in its infancy, but will grow over time. Also, I have been invited to be one of the speakers on the 3rd Unlock the Past genealogy cruise next February, what a great opportunity to talk about a subject I love and enjoy a luxury cruise. How lucky I am!!”
Linda’s Tips for New Genealogy Bloggers
“Talk to your elderly family members whilst you can, get into the habit of always recording where you got your information from and don’t cut and paste other people’s research onto your tree without checking it first!”
Linda’s Favorite Ancestor
“My favourite ancestor is my grandmother Ada Beatrice Southwell, she had such a hard start in life, she was born in the slums of London, had become an orphan at the age of 7 years, yet she survived all that and became a strong, elegant woman. A real role model.”
How Genealogy Improved Linda’s Life
“I have made friends, visited places and had opportunities that I wouldn’t have had without genealogy. Family history has given me a sense of who I am in the world.”
What Linda Loves Most About Genealogy
“I love the hunt for new information, the joy of reading old documents and the day dreaming about what life was like for my ancestors hundreds of years ago.”
