I have the opportunity to introduce another young genealogy blogger. I would like to introduce you to . . . Jake Fletcher’s Genealogy Project.
How Jake’s Blog Began
At the high school where Jake recently graduated, seniors were required to complete a “senior project.” Having become interested in family history the summer before his senior year, Jake chose genealogy as the subject of his project. He had found some pretty cool genealogy websites and blogs and decided that it would be a great way to showcase the research and work that he had already done. During the project, Jake determined that a blog would be easier to maintain than a website.
I asked Jake what his biggest fear was in starting his own genealogy blog and he said that he “wasn’t really hesitant about starting, I guess I had to keep in mind that I had to update regularly, otherwise there wouldn’t be much point to it.” How right he is!
Internship With NEHGS
Jake was fortunate enough to have been offered the summer internship at the New England Historical Genealogical Society in Boston, Massachusetts. Normally this internship is offered to Brigham Young University students, but NEHGS wanted to select someone in the area. Basically, two-thirds of the time spent during the internship will be with research services which entails working in the library with research cases. The other one-third of the time will be spent in the archives which involves archiving the collections.
This is a wonderful opportunity for Jake – he stated that it will serve as a huge leap forward in his genealogical pursuits.
Jake started his internship on July 29th and will work three days a week over the course of six weeks. He also was the youngest attendee of a NEHGS trip which took place during March 2009. Jake is grateful that he was able to attend that Washington DC research trip since it resulted in his association with NEHGS.
Jake’s Family and His Blog
Jake’s family enjoys his genealogy blog and feels it is very interesting and professional. They look forward to learning more and more about their family history thru his blog. Many family members and friends check in on Jake’s blog from time to time.
How Jake Follows the Rest of Us
Jake admits that he doesn’t use a blog reader (yet!), but he reads posts from fellow bloggers via email. Jake mentioned that he is not familiar with blog readers – I say we introduce him!

Please take the time to check out Jake’s blog since it is truly a pleasure to read. Personally, I find the updates on Jake’s blog regarding his internship at NEHGS most interesting. With genealogists like Jake and Elyse Doerflinger, their generation brings a bright and dynamic future to genealogy and genealogy blogs.
