May I Introduce To You . . . Carol Chidlow

Carol Chidlow

I have the pleasure of introducing you to Carol Chidlow and her blog, Sitting Under The Family Tree, described as, “. . . My trials and tribulations of family research with a little bit of advice thrown in.”

How Carol Got Started in Genealogy

Carol has been researching her family history since 1995, “. . . I was curious about my mother’s family and the sister of a friend of mine dabbled (addicted) in genealogy and she offered to help me.”

Carol’s Thoughts on Creating a Blog

“I like to write, I’ve done some writing when I worked for a newspaper and I enjoy the creative outlet. I am so grateful for a site like GeneaBloggers. Their commitment to help genealogy bloggers is astounding and I love it.”

Carol’s Favorite Ancestor

“My favorite ancestor is my grandmother on my father’s side. She had 13 children in four different states, moved from Pennsylvania to North Dakota to homestead, traveling with 9 of the children at the turn of the century and then stayed on the farm by herself with the children during the winter as my grandfather who was a shoemaker, stayed in town to work. Plus she outlived my grandfather by 22 years. That was a strong woman.”

How Genealogy Improved Carol’s Life

“I’d like to believe genealogy research has helped me overcome shyness because I have needed to approach strangers on the web and by mail to make connections. Plus it has fed my love of a good mystery. I think I would have made a great private detective. I still might.”

What Carol Loves Most About Genealogy

“The mystery of it all. I get incredibly excited when I make connections and meet fourth and fifth cousins online.

I love genealogy for a number of reasons. It’s a hobby you can stop when you need to pick it back up when you want to and love it because you have to. I always relate my family tree to a ginormous jig saw puzzle with no straight edges.”

Carol’s Time Capsule Message for Future Generations

“I hope one of them will enjoy family research as much as I do. After all, I’ve got it half done for them.”
