festivus for genealogists

The Festivus Show

Get your metal pole out from the crawl space and gather around the radio as we honor the traditions of Festivus! If you are unfamiliar with the concept of Festivus, click here and here.

Listeners are encouraged to call in at (213) 286-6709 and join in the fun. Tell us what really “grinds your gears” about genealogy (airing of grievances) as well as show off your genealogy super-powers and accomplishments (feats of strength). And we’ll have a special discussion about giving back to the genealogy community (the Human Fund). This will truly be a Festivus for the rest of us!

After Party at Outloud.fm!

NOTE: Members have stated that Outloud.fm is not compatible with later versions of Internet Explorer – please consider using the Google Chrome browser for Outloud.fm.

That’s right – we’ll be having another fun “after party” over at the genealogy room at Outloud.fm (http://outloud.fm/genealogy) where the theme will be: Holiday Music. We invite you to upload the music that brings back special Christmas and Hanukkah memories for you.  Not only can you listen to what others upload to Outloud.fm,  but there is an interactive chat room where you can extend the discussion on education or whatever genealogy topic you want!

About Thomas MacEntee

What happens when a “tech guy” with a love for history gets laid off during The Great Recession of 2008? You get Thomas MacEntee, a genealogy professional who’s also a blogger, educator, author, social media connector, online community builder and more. Thomas was laid off after a 25-year career in the information technology field, so he started his own genealogy-related business called High Definition Genealogy. He also created an online community of over 3,000 family history bloggers known as GeneaBloggers. His most recent endeavor, Hack Genealogy, is an attempt to “re-purpose today’s technology for tomorrow’s genealogy.” Thomas describes himself as a lifelong learner with a background in a multitude of topics who has finally figured out what he does best: teach, inspire, instigate, and serve as a curator and go-to-guy for concept nurturing and inspiration. Thomas is a big believer in success, and that we all succeed when we help each other find success.
