Genealogy Conferences – Perspectives
Our special guests will include Anne Roach of Archives.com who served as the Conference Manager for RootsTech 2011 this past February and Janet Hovorka, frequent genealogy conference exhibitor/vendor and owner of Generation Maps. Both Anne and Janet will help us understand the issues involved with genealogy conferences from the planner and vendor perspectives.

Anne Roach
Anne Roach served as the RootsTech 2011 conference developer and chair and recently joined Archives.com as Director of Content Development. Anne has been involved in the genealogy community for many years, from her days as an undergraduate studying History/Family History at Brigham Young University, to her time as the owner of a successful genealogy research business, and FamilySearch International Reference Consultant and Community Manager. She has lectured at various local and international conferences on genealogy and technology topics, including the IAJGS Conference, RootsTech, and the BYU Technology Workshop; and has worked as a Salt Lake Institute of Genealogy track coordinator and instructor, and Utah Library Association GenRT Chair and Vice-chair.

Janet Hovorka
Janet Hovorka received a B.A. in Ancient Near Eastern History and a Master’s degree in Library and Information Science from BYU. She accepted teaching and library positions at BYU and Salt Lake Community College before having her three wonderful children. She and her husband Kim Hovorka own Generation Maps (http://www.generationmaps.com), an online genealogy chart printing service. Janet writes The Chart Chick blog (http://www.thechartchick.com), she is currently serving as President of the Utah Genealogical Association and has presented 100s of lectures all over the country to help people find out more about their family’s history.
Current projects: Mostly printing beautiful family reunion charts at this time of year. Busy with UGA,–lots of new projects there including the virtual chapter every third thursday of the month http://www.infouga.org/index.php?option=virtual.
