Congratulations to Our Family History Expo Contest Winner!

California Family History Expo

Congratulations to Nicole Fox of Marysville, California who entry was selected early this morning as the winner of our California Family History Expo contest!

After being notified via e-mail, Nicole let us know a little about her and her involvement with genealogy.  She has only been actively doing genealogy for a little over a year, but Nicole believes that this was one of her true callings in life!   She recently became the “keeper” of a great book published by a distant relative who traveled to England for about a decade collecting documents on her family history.

Since last year, Nicole has been doing a lot of research for other family lines and has come into contact with living relatives that she didn’t know.  This was all as direct a result of her genealogy work, which has been very rewarding.

We’re looking forward to meeting Nicole and all the other attendees at the Expo held at the Alameda Fairgrounds in Pleasanton, California, October 8-9, 2010.  Stop by the Beacon of Bloggers table and say hello to the genealogy bloggers in attendance!

About Thomas MacEntee

What happens when a “tech guy” with a love for history gets laid off during The Great Recession of 2008? You get Thomas MacEntee, a genealogy professional who’s also a blogger, educator, author, social media connector, online community builder and more. Thomas was laid off after a 25-year career in the information technology field, so he started his own genealogy-related business called High Definition Genealogy. He also created an online community of over 3,000 family history bloggers known as GeneaBloggers. His most recent endeavor, Hack Genealogy, is an attempt to “re-purpose today’s technology for tomorrow’s genealogy.” Thomas describes himself as a lifelong learner with a background in a multitude of topics who has finally figured out what he does best: teach, inspire, instigate, and serve as a curator and go-to-guy for concept nurturing and inspiration. Thomas is a big believer in success, and that we all succeed when we help each other find success.
